Legacy Gifts

Archives have been described as a gift from one generation to future generations. Including the Mennonite Heritage Archives in your estate planning will greatly help us in caring for what past generations have entrusted to us. Including a charity, such as the MHA, can be part of a strategic plan and may benefit the estate.

Letter to Our Patrons

November 2025

Archivist Conrad Stoesz (front left) speaking to a group of newcomers in Altona, MB.

Greetings from the Mennonite Heritage Archives!

2025 has been a significant year for the Mennonite community — and the Mennonite Heritage Archives. Staff and resources contributed to community and family events celebrating the 150th anniversary of the establishment of Mennonite communities in Manitoba, and the 500th anniversary of the Anabaptist / Mennonite movement.

In addition to our ongoing mission of processing records, digitizing materials, and hosting researchers, we launched a radio show / podcast — Tales from the Mennonite Heritage Archives — serving the Mennonite community, and beyond. Each episode shares the story about an event, a person, or a place found in documents and photos in our collections.

As the end of 2025 comes into view, we need to raise $60,000 for our budget. Will you help us reach our goal for this year? Your contribution is crucial in safeguarding our shared history – and building it for the future.

 Your giving supports the staff and volunteer team as they work to…

  • Preserve and index of 600+ meters of paper records, 40,000+ photos, and 5,000+ hours of audio recordings that makes our history more accessible to everyone;
  • Host, on average, 50 visitors a month and respond to over 100 requests per month from people exploring family histories, conducting research for books, films, academic papers, documentaries, and more;
  • Scan and digitize newspapers and magazines like Der Bote, Intotemak, and Mennonite Reporter which contain over 130,000 pages of searchable text at https://collections.mharchives.ca;
  • Publish 4 issues annually of the Mennonite Historian magazine;
  • Produce 50 episodes of the show Tales from the Mennonite Heritage Archives www.mharchives.ca/tales-from-the-archives/  (see also Spotify or Apple Podcasts)
  • Visit churches, classrooms, and conferences to share stories from the archives.

None of this would be possible without our forebearers, who recognized the importance of preserving our stories. Their commitment many years ago is a gift that keeps on giving.

We are deeply grateful to individuals like you – partners who recognize the ongoing importance of preserving our heritage. To donate, please visit www.mharchives.ca/how-to/donate-finances/. You can also call us at 204-560-1998 to process your gift over the phone.

Your gift is a testament of your commitment to preserve the legacy of our Mennonite community for future generations. If you’d like to learn more about what we do, visit www.mharchives.ca or visit us in person.

Thank you for your support. Together, we are building a legacy. If you have given recently – thank you very much!
