Historical note

Jakob F. Penner, minister and farmer, was born on September 22, 1898 to Frank and Maria (nee Thiessen) Penner. He had a sister who died in childhood and one other brother. His mother Maria died when he was just three years old and his father soon remarried Helena Suderman. This second marriage produced 11 children three of which died in childhood. Penner was baptized on June 9, 1919 in the Old Colony Church in Chortitz. The next year he married Sara Penner on December 12, 1920 at Rosenort. Their marriage produced 12 children including 3 sons and 9 daughters. Penner was ordained to the ministry in 1936 and as Aeltester in 1959 at the Old Colony Church in Chortitz. In 1974 Penner and his wife moved to Winkler where he died suddenly on November 18 1974.

Scope and content note

This fonds contains five notebooks of notes and sermons, some of which include also the dates and locations where they were preached.
