Historical note

Peter K. Harder, minister, carpenter and farmer, was born on September 28, 1906 in Heuboden, Rhineland Municipality, Manitoba. He was one of two children born to Klaas and Maria (nee Bergen) Harder. He grew up with his sister and a foster sister and attended school in Plum Coulee. On May 24,1926 Harder was baptized and became a member of the Sommerfeld Mennonite Church. That same year he married Katharina Wiebe on November 4, 1926. Their marriage produced eight children, three of which died at birth. On July 23, 1949, Harder was elected to the ministry but was not ordained until April 17, 1960 by Aeltester John A. Friesen. He farmed in Schoenau and also used his skills as a carpenter to support his family. Peter K. Harder died on August 24, 1981

Scope and content note

This fonds contains three notebooks of sermons. The first contains two sermons based on the scripture passages Matthew 28:1-10 and John 11:54. The second book contains one sermon based on James 1:19-25. The third book contains one sermon based on 2 Corinthians 13:13. Each of these notebooks also lists the dates and locations where these sermons were preached.
