Historical note

William S. Buhr, minister,travelling evangelist and teacher, was born on December 9, 1898 in Edenburg near Gretna, Manitoba to Jacob and Susanna (nee Friesen) Buhr. He was the fourth in a family of 15 children. Buhr attended Edenburg District School and then went on to complete teacher's training at the Mennonite Collegiate Institute in Gretna. He was baptized at the age of 19 and the following year married Anna Wiebe on August 10,1919. Their marriage produced eight children. Buhr taught in the public school system for 24 years between 1919-1935. He was called to the ministry on May 29, 1928 and served in the Edenburg Church in Manitoba and later in the Zoar Mennonite Church in Langham, Saskatchewan. He became a representative for the British and foreign Bible Society in 1937 and also spent some of his time working as a travelling evangelist. William S. Buhr died on July 3, 1967, six months after suffering a serious stroke.

Scope and content note

This fonds contains one book of Buhr's reflectons on his preaching and ministry. It also contains 2 notebooks of theological notes on the book of Genesis as well as various other biblical passages.
