Historical note

Grace Mennonite Church in Winkler, Manitoba began in part to offer services in the English language which the Winkler Bergthaler congregation did not do adequately. The met in rented facilities in Winkler and organized as a congregation in 1961 with 32 charter members. In 1962 they completed their own meeting house. This building was expanded three times over the next 25 years. In 1971 the membership was 106 and in 1981 it was 216. In 1986 a new meeting house was completed. Many members were involved in voluntary service and with MCC in particular. Choice Books was a retail book rack evangelism project begun by this congregation. The membership was 279 in 1990 and 391 in 2000. The leaders of the congregation were: Helen and Bernie Loeppky (1961-1971), Ann and John Krahn (1971-1983), Ann and Henry Baerg (1983-1984), Kristine and Chris Arney (1984-1989), Al Rempel (1990), Gordon Stewart (1991), Arnie Neufeld (1992-2000), Neil Funk (2001- ), Herb Franz (2001- ).

Scope and content note

This fonds contains bulletins (1965-2000), congregational meeting minutes (1978-1992), annual reports (1978-1992), congregational directories ([197-?]-1994), and congregational newsletters (1993). The records pertain to the beginning and development of congregation and they document the leaders and participants in this congregation.
