Historical note

Covenant Mennonite Church began in 1981 in rented facilities when some members of the Winkler Bergthaler Mennonite Church wanted to have alternative styles of worship. They attempted to involve the whole family in all aspects of congregational life including worship. The membership in 1982 was 25. In 1990 the membership was 42. In 2000 the membership was 32. The leaders of the congregation were: Gary Bueckert (1981-1982), Elsie and Walter Wiebe (1983-1986, 1991), Carrie and Lawrence Siemens (1987-1990), Barry Lesser (1992-1997), Kelvin Dyck (1998- ).

This fonds contains congregational planning and steering committee meeting minutes including financial reports (1981-1986), congregational meeting minutes (1979-1986), church council meeting minutes (1979-1982), congregational covenants (1982-1990), directories (1982-1989), brochures (1981), news releases (1981-1982), bulletins (1981-2000), annual reports (1983-1986), calendar of activities (1991-1997), and newsletters (2000). The records pertain to the founding and development of the Mennonite congregation in Winkler, Manitoba and they documents the leaders and participants of this congregation.
