Historical note

Taber Mennonite Church was formed in 1963 in Taber, Alberta. Services had begun in the area in 1949. It was a mission outreach of the Coaldale Mennonite Church. They built their own meeting house in 1953. It was formally organized in 1963 with 38 members. A year later there were 47 members. They reached their peak at around 1980 with 70 members and then declined slowly to 53 members at the time the congregation dissolved in 1998. The leaders of the congregation were: D. J. Nickel (1955-1964), Jacob Wiebe (1965-1969), Menno Bergen (1970-1974), Jacob Reimer (1975-1980), Abe Friesen (1981), David Thiessen (1982, 1987), Elwin Epp (1983-1986), and Nick Dyck (1988-1999).

This fonds contains bulletins (1961-1997), constitution ([196-?]-1993), congregational reorganziation paper ([196-?]), church council meeting minutes (1967-1997), correspondence (1952-1964), joint meeting of the conference mission committee and congregational representatives (1952) reports (1953), reproduction photocopy of congregation at the dedication day (1953), annual reports (1976-1996), congregational meeting minutes (1983- 1997), directories (1988-1994), friendship circle meeting minutes (1989-1997). The records pertain to the founding and development of the Mennonite congregation Taber, Alberta. They document some of the leaders and participants in the congregation.
